East Africa: Digital East Africa May Take a Long Time to Achieve

Acording to the article published on AllAfrica.com, the process of digital migration in East Africa seems to be running into heavy headwinds before it has hit high seas for Kenya while in Uganda a state of permanent disarray is in place. In Tanzania, where phase one of the process in Dar es Salaam has already taken place, the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) would have us believe all is well. But is it?

What is ailing the process of Digital migration in East Africa, whereas all the stakeholders seem to be in agreement, that digital TV is the future for all, the viewers and the parties involved?

Africa: Kenya Second in Africa in Internet Contribution to GDP - Report

According to an article published on AllAfrica Global Media, Africa's rapid adoption of internet technology and solutions is increasingly contributing to the growth of economies across the continent, with Kenya among the leading countries reaping from the internet.

Kenya marginally trails Senegal in the internet's contribution to GDP, according to research by McKinsey. The report titled Lions go digital, shows the internet contributed 2.9 percent to Kenya's Gross Domestic Product while Senegal led the pack with 3.3 percent of its economy benefiting from the Internet.

127 digital hubs will boost high-quality teaching and learning in Africa

Over half a million teachers and learners in nine countries in Sub-Africa are set to experience a step change in access to digital educational resources in their schools. British council and Bharti Airtel have joined forces to maximize the learning benefits of Bharti Airtel’s wider broadband connective of 5 GB per month in a three-year deal for 127 digital hubs located in schools across nine countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

South African Post Office (SAPO) goes digital and builds trust

ItNewsAfrica.com features an interesting article about the Trust Centre, a highly secure environment that holds the public key infrastructure (PKI) and Certificate Authorities (CAs) which provide user authentication and ensures trust and legal status in electronic transactions through the use of Trust Centre digital certificates. It has been developed by the South African Post Office (SAPO) in order to reinforce its digital strength.
